Theatre
Space has been identified that perfectly
fits the requirements of an intimate 150-200
seat theatre, complete with a backstage area,
dressing rooms, scenic, prop, and costume shops.
This will be a “black box” performance
space ideally suited to plays, readings, workshop
productions, puppetry, experimental theatre and
dance, as well as jazz, classical, folk, and
family concerts. In addition, there will
be spaces designed for performances requiring
a larger, more flexible performance area.

By using the existing aspects
of the mill’s architecture and adding to
it the visual clues that make a theatre environment,
such as heavy red stage curtains and theatre
seating, an impressive performance space is created.
Lighting, heating and air conditioning will be
done in heavy, industrial fashion. Adjacent rooms
exist that are ideally suited as backstage areas
i.e. set construction, props & costume shop. Even
the original mill washrooms are perfectly oriented
and suited for dressing rooms.
