Open Cell Spray Foam Insulation

Open cell is typically described as a foam with a density of 1-1.5 lb. or less. The term "open cell" is a good description of its structure. Based on the formula, the cell walls are thinner allowing the cells to not always form completely. The cells in this formula sometimes join with others which make this foam much more pliable. This formula is ideal for insulation between studs and in ceilings. Because of the pliability the walls have room to shift without sacrificing solidness of the walls and foam. This is
what refered to as a “complete envelope” is. This means that the foam is its own vapor barrier. As the foam squeezes into every crack, non-square frame or hole it will not allow any air movement (permeability, the cause of a large portion of heat loss in a home).
