Solaqua's Energy Future Project: Issue...

Solaqua is developing a renewably-powered industrial arts center demonstrating and promoting innovative and efficient technologies. The project is driven by a deep concern for current and future liabilities and vulnerabilities of energy production. Solaqua wants to demonstrate artwork and innovation through design as part of an effort to promote education and retaliation to susceptabilites currently facing our energy future. Developing the center as an energetically sustainable facility is both technically and economically challenging, but recent instabilities in energy markets have intensified the importance of energy security. On-site energy production, if feasible and practical, can deliver both energy independence and security. It is not often the case that commercial or industrial facilities are designed with the idea of no produced energy influx due to the impracticalities of most alternative energy solutions. Providing a consistent and reliable source of energy to fuel global economies is a necessity that has been recieving increased attention in recent years. Consumption patterns in the United States indicate a dramatic increase in foreign dependence and potential vulnerabilities of domestic energy supplies. If the US is to increase levels of energy security it will be necessary to restructure individual energy consumption and production practices in all sectors of society. Solaqua will demonstrate the financial and social viability of certain renewable design components and techniques through Our Energy Future Project in these pages.

"When the sun stops shining, the wind stops blowing and the waters stop flowing, then it's time to fire up the alternative energy of fossil fuels and nuclear energy."
